Tameside Retired Teachers’ Association
2009 Report
January saw the launch of our web site, with the title http://sites.google.com/site/tamesiderteachers/, but this has now been shortened to www.trt77.org.uk. Surrounding groups have publicity on the site and we have links on the Tameside Teachers’ Association, Tameside Radio, Tameside Library and Ask Tameside (What’s on?). Surrounding Retired Teachers’ groups that have entries on the site are: Stockport, Salford, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Wigan and NAHT North West Retired.
At our AGM, held in January, Audrey Barlow was installed as President for the year and Brenda Ilett as vice President. Mrs Barbara Bennett took over the job of Programme Secretary
Our June excursion was to Harrogate & Ripley Castle. We were again joined by Stalybridge Holy Trinity Ladies’ Club and friends, to make the numbers up to 50. We got a grant from the Community Foundation towards this outing and an included cream tea.
Summer and Christmas Lunches were held at the “Old Rectory” Haughton Green and were well attended.
Topics at our other meetings included: Lyme Hall, Lancashire Folklore & Traditions, Holidays for the over 50s, Warburton’s Bread (with samples), Tameside Patrollers, Beatrix Potter Industrial Heritage, and 600 miles down the Nile. The May meeting was moved to Dukinfield Town Hall and the October meeting to Denton Festival Hall, even though we had booked Stalybridge Civic Hall in February 2008. There is a clause in the booking agreement that lets TMBC do this, if they need the room themselves.
We welcome ALL Retired Teachers and more information can be obtained from the “Lust for Life” booklet, the various web sites, including the Library, Tameside Teachers’ Association, What’s on? and www.trt77.org.uk or from James Pinder at 0161 370 3166, or tameside.retiredteachers@yahoo.co.uk.
James Pinder.
